I was so excited that this weeks blog topic was “Photographer’s Choice”. I had so many ideas this week on what to write about – I couldn’t decide. As I sat down to write, I thought about how much I love photography. And then I thought about my newest adventure in photography, Coordinator of the Flourish Academy Camera Club.
Camera Club is one of my favorite things about the Flourish Academy. The Flourish Academy has been hosting Camera Club for over 8 years. The goal of Camera Club is to encourage and grow a support group of photographers. As a community outreach, Camera Club is free and you can join the free, private Facebook group here: FA Community
Camera Club meetings are typically held the 3rd Tuesday of the month at the FA Headquarters near the Pittsburgh International Airport. As coordinator, I will be working with photographers of the Flourish Academy to select different locations around the Greater Pittsburgh area and surrounding areas to explore. These offsite Camera Club meetings allow us to expand our location repitoire for our photography hobbies and businesses. Additional, we support community over competition and offsite Camera Club meetings bring us together to learn and grow.
February’s offsite Camera Club was held at South Park. Fellow photographer and friend, Alicia Curry of Moments Created Photography, selected the location and provided 2021 Senior models. The temps were a little cold (ok very cold) but we had a great turn out! We explored a few of Alicia’s favorite locations and learned some senior girl posing techniques. It was so much fun!
I encourage everyone to check out and join the Flourish Academy and attend Camera Club – don’t be shy, we don’t bite! In fact we all love meeting new friends and helping each other. When I first joined the Flourish Academy, I didn’t attend Camera Club the first year because I was afraid. Guess what I found out? I had nothing to be afraid of, in fact, I wish I went sooner. I have learned so much, made many new friends, and have a whole community of mentors. Photographers of ALL levels are welcome, we encourage you to join us and share with your friends that also love photography!

I can’t even believe how far I’ve come in my photography business. I would have never thought I would be in this position, but my mentor Heather from the Flourish Academy always tells us that our success is inevitable, and at some point, I started to believe her!
